Guests were also treated to an aquatic show on the Rhine which traced CroisiEurope’s journey over five decades, from its European roots to destinations as far afield as Southern Africa and Cambodia.

Ambassador Cruise Line adopts Starlink Wi-Fi Connectivity

Premium Value Cruise Line Enhances Guest Experience with State-of-the-Art Internet Access

Ambassador Cruise Line, the premium value, no fly cruise line, has announced that Starlink Wi-Fi will be available on its fleet by early December, ushering in an era of seamless, high-speed internet connectivity for guests and crew alike.

The deployment of Starlink, the Low Earth Orbit satellite system developed by SpaceX, will bring an unparalleled level of connectivity to Ambassador guests, ensuring they can stay connected with the world wherever they sail. This technology will be accessible not only in public spaces but also in cabins, ensuring that guests can enjoy the internet's convenience and reliability from all corners of the ship.

Ambience will be the first ship to undergo its Starlink installation in November, with Ambition's upgrade to broadband internet set to be completed by early December. It’s anticipated that broadband speeds onboard will increase by 50% following the installation.

Christian Verhounig, Chief Executive Officer, Ambassador Cruise Line, said: "This enhancement to internet connectivity across the fleet is yet another milestone in our mission to make cruising with Ambassador an unforgettable experience. Reliable internet access is essential, and we are thrilled to introduce an enhanced Wi-Fi service on board Ambience and Ambition. Offering unparalleled connectivity while in port and at sea will enable our guests and crew to seamlessly connect with their loved ones and the world around them, ensuring they can capture and share precious moments while staying informed and entertained during their sailing.”

The decision to introduce SpaceX's Starlink connectivity across the entire Ambassador fleet follows a successful trial on board Ambition in September. During this trial period, Customer Satisfaction Questionnaire (CSQ) results for Wi-Fi connectivity improved by an impressive 35%, reflecting the positive impact this technology will have on guest satisfaction.

With Starlink Wi-Fi, Ambassador Cruise Line continues to demonstrate its dedication to providing the warmest welcome at sea, ensuring that every guest enjoys a memorable and connected experience on board. Whether guests are exploring exotic ports or enjoying the ship's facilities, they can now stay seamlessly connected, share their travel moments and stay updated with the world, all thanks to Starlink's cutting-edge technology.

WINDSTAR CRUISES ANNOUNCES DEPLOYMENT THROUGH WINTER 2025/26

- Early Booking Offer & New Onboard Cruise Promotion Provide Even Greater Value -

Small ship cruise line Windstar Cruises has released its sailing schedule through winter 2025/26, with several deployment moves for its fleet of six ships. Most notable are new season-long sailings in the Canary Islands, first-ever Cruise Tours in the Middle East, two new Cruise Tours in Tahiti and the return of one epic voyage throughout the entire Caribbean.

Anyone booking these itineraries before 6th November 2023 will receive a free upgrade to All-Inclusive Fares which includes unlimited alcoholic beverages, Wi-Fi and all gratuities with a value of $99 per guest per day, as well as $100 per guest onboard credit. These are the best value that Windstar will offer on these departures.

In addition, Windstar is rolling out a brand new cruise promotion across the fleet. Any guest sailing on Windstar can book their next cruise while onboard and receive a 10% discount, as well as a $100 per person shipboard credit and reduced deposits on a tier-based system depending on the value of the cruise. This 10% discount is only available when guests book a 2025/26 cruise while sailing and it can be combined with other Windstar promotions as well as Windstar's Formula One/Grand Prix themed sailings. With onboard cruise bookings, the guest’s travel agent will receive their usual commission.

Windstar’s latest deployment updates include:

Canary Islands in Winter

Windstar previously announced several new cruises in the Canary Islands beginning in 2024. However, the 148-guest Wind Star yacht now will sail the Canary Islands consistently from November 2025 through March 2026. The move will provide ample opportunity to enjoy warm weather and sun in a location infused with African and European culture, as well as the chance to take advantage of quick flights from London to escape grey skies and cold weather with ease.

Middle East - Newly Added Cruise Tours for 2024 and 2025

Windstar is excited to introduce its guests to the Middle East with its first-ever itineraries beginning November 2023 on all-suite, 312-guest Star Legend, taking guests to sites from world religions to Egyptian temples, Bedouin villages and extravagant cities that have risen from the desert over the past few decades. Sail dates are now listed into spring of 2025, with more than a dozen itineraries to choose from including Cruise Tours that combine a land tour with the cruise. Brand-new options are Cruise Tours for both Dubai and Muscat in 2024 and 2025, with included experiences such as a star-lit local feast and belly dancing at the Al Hadeerah Resort, as well as ample time for exploring historic neighbourhoods, spending time in museums or delving further into Bedouin traditions.

Tahiti

Windstar has created two new cruise tour options in French Polynesia, where the line has sailed for more than 35 years and is the small ship expert.

The new Tahiti & Moorea Foodie Cruise Tour is a three-day extension to Windstar’s seven-day Dreams of Tahiti cruise, with three nights in a garden bungalow at the Hotel Manava Beach Resort & Spa Moorea; a half-day Moorea food adventure including locally-produced liquor and juice tastings, traditional Ma’a tinito (a Tahitian twist on Chinese food), and stops at exemplary roadside stands; a full day Moorea snorkelling tour of Cook and Opunohu bays with lunch and cultural demonstrations; and transfers.

Overwater Bungalow & Tahitian Paradises Cruise Tour is a romance-filled three-day extension to Windstar’s Dreams of Tahiti cruise featuring accommodations in an overwater bungalow at a four-star resort including three nights at the Hotel Manava Beach Resort & Spa Moorea, a breakfast delivered to the bungalow via canoe, a romantic beach dinner, a half day private car tour, and all transfers.

In addition, starting in February 2024, Windstar will move the all-suite, 312-passenger Star Breeze to sail in Tahiti year-round, replacing the 148-passenger classic sailing yacht Wind Spirit as Windstar’s vessel of choice in French Polynesia. Windstar also recently announced new cruises to the remote Marquesas Islands beginning in 2024.

Caribbean

Windstar is bringing back its Grand Caribbean Adventure, which returns in a revised fashion with new ports on board Windstar’s flagship Wind Surf. The cruise includes a partial transit of the Panama Canal, a new port in Scarborough (Trinidad and Tobago) as well as Saint Peirre (Martinique), plus the addition of Grand Cayman. The 55-day sailing has overnights in Jost Van Dyke, St. Barts, and Virgin Gorda, and spends just nine days at sea. More of Windstar’s Grand Adventures here

On Windstar’s San Juan & the Virgin Islands sailings, Windstar has replaced Montserrat with St. Kitts, as well as replaced St. Thomas with the lusher and smaller St. John.

On Windward Islands Surf & Sunsets, Windstar has replaced the port of Philipsburg with Marigot on St. Martin.

FROM BROTHER CAPTAINS TO GODMOTHER SISTERS:

IT’S A FAMILY AFFAIR ON THE UPCOMING CELEBRITY ASCENT

BELOW DECK’S CAPTAIN SANDY YAWN AND HER SISTER MICHELLE DUNHAM ANNOUNCED AS THE SHIP’S GODMOTHERS

Celebrity Cruises the award-winning premium cruise line, is thrilled to unveil the Godmothers for Celebrity Ascent, launching this December. Today, Celebrity Cruises announces that Captain Sandy Yawn, best known for her appearance on Bravo TV’s hit series, Below Deck, alongside her sister Michelle Dunham, founder of the Jacksonville School for Autism (JSA), have been selected as co-Godmothers of the upcoming ship. The sisters will now join the industry’s first brother Captains, Dimitrios and Tasos Kafetzis, who were announced earlier this year as the chosen duo to jointly take helm of the new vessel.

Captain Sandy and Michelle will now join an illustrious group of admired, purposeful and inspirational women who hold the role of Godmother for a Celebrity Cruises ship. Godmothers of the previous Edge® Series ships include Simone Biles, 19-time World Champion and seven-time Olympic Medallistwho christened the most recent ship,

Celebrity Beyond, in 2022; Reshma Saujani, founder and CEO of international nonprofit Girls Who Code who named Celebrity Apex in 2021; and Malala Yousafzai, Nobel laureate and activist, who introduced the revolutionary ship class when Edge launched in 2018.

"We are honoured to have Captain Sandy and her sister Michelle join the legacy of Celebrity’s Godmothers, as they are both inspirational women who have dedicated their lives to making a positive impact in the world
” says Laura Hodges Bethge, Celebrity Cruises’ President. “Captain Sandy’s life story is one of resilience, leadership and strength, as a pioneer in the maritime industry and as an inspirational role model for young women. Her sister Michelle is a tireless advocate for children with autism and shows us what is possible when you follow your vision for a better world. Both women live by Celebrity’s values, and we have no doubt they are the perfect choices for Ascent.”

One of the most time-honoured traditions at sea, the Godmother is the spiritual embodiment of a vessel - she is the woman who inspires, protects and positively impacts the lives of everyone who sails onboard. During Ascent’s official naming ceremony on 1st December, 2023, both sisters will bless and christen the ship, bringing good luck and protection for the crew and all passengers onboard.

About Captain Sandy Yawn:

Captain Sandy is the embodiment of resilience, surviving a life-threatening accident, cancer and struggles with addiction before launching her career in the yacht industry. Her unwavering integrity and courage have earned her an outstanding reputation, and her remarkable leadership and bravery during a catastrophic fire and pirate threat off the coast of Yemen, led to her receiving the prestigious Distinguished Crew Award from the International Superyacht Society in 2006.

As a best-selling author and motivational speaker, she is passionate about sharing her life stories to inspire others in overcoming obstacles and pursuing their dreams. Beyond her successful yachting career, she actively contributes to philanthropy, ocean advocacy, and children's education, showcasing her commitment to creating a positive impact on society.

“As I embark on this remarkable journey as a co-godmother of the Celebrity Ascent, I am deeply honoured to represent not only the spirit of leadership but also the strength of women empowerment,” says Captain Sandy Yawn. “This role serves as a reminder that women can steer their destinies with grace and determination, commanding the seas of possibility and inspiring others to follow their own paths with courage and conviction. I am so honoured that my sister and I can share this distinction. She has always been my biggest inspiration in her selfless pursuit to help my nephew and other families impacted by autism.”

About Michelle Dunham:

Michelle Dunham is the co-founder of the Jacksonville School for Autism (JSA), alongside her husband Mark. Michelle developed the model for JSA to give her son, Nicholas, the best opportunity to learn. Established in 2005, JSA is a not-for-profit private school as a full-service K-12 educational centre for students and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, with a focus on whole child development and individualised programs that encourage both family and community involvement. JSA is as unique in its approach as the children they serve. Interwoven into the very fabric of what their programme stands for is the necessity for each student to develop independence while improving the quality of their lives. Removing the layers of isolation, they are creating an inclusive environment for each student to be themselves in order to educate, engage and inspire. In March of 2020, JSA relocated to an expansive campus that embraces the lush landscape and provides both the staff and students with frequent opportunities for engagement with the outdoors and the introduction of a vocational gardening programme.

“It fills my heart with immense pride to stand as co-godmother of the Celebrity Ascent, alongside my sister, Captain Sandy Yawn. As we embark on this journey, much like Celebrity Cruise’s commitment to delivering exceptional vacations and enriching lives, we embrace the same spirit of compassion and positive change,” says Michelle Dunham. “Together, we aspire to elevate lives, create boundless possibilities, and set sail towards a brighter, more inclusive future for all who grace our path through the charities we founded, Jacksonville School for Autism and Captain Sandy’s Charities.”

Lupino’s to take pride of place on Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambition

As the build-up to the inaugural sailing of Ambassador’s second ship continues, company reveals that marquee restaurant will honour departed colleague

Ambassador Cruise Line’s new ship, Ambition, will welcome guests onboard her maiden voyage on May 12, offering them the chance to be among the first to enjoy a meal in a restaurant that pays homage to Michelle Lupino – the valued Ambassador colleague who sadly passed away following a short illness in October 2022.

Michelle Lupino was a vibrant and engaging personality who was a much-loved team member, business partner and friend to many in both the Ambassador family and the wider industry. To mark her passing, Ambassador has chosen to honour her memory by creating an onboard dining experience for guests to enjoy which recognises her Italian heritage and vibrant, inclusive and warm-hearted qualities: Lupino’s.

Bob McGowan, Head of Guest Experience, Ambassador Cruise Line, said: “I was very close to Michelle, and news of her passing affected me deeply. When I was asked by the business to help create a place on our new ship to honour her memory, I wanted it to be a celebration of her life and the many things that made her so special, including her love of socialising with friends old and new. She was the life and soul of any party or gathering and would always make people feel welcome. We hope the restaurant designed in her image will be a fitting tribute to Michelle, and I’d like to think she would wholeheartedly approve of what we have created.”

Working with Atlantic Marine Interiors and renowned interior designer, Guri Blindheim, Lupino’s will be a Mediterranean-style restaurant with a relaxed, al-fresco feel. The restaurant has been conceived to offer guests a fresh, invigorating and warm welcome that’s perfect for those looking to enjoy the company of others, whether they be old friends or new acquaintances. To add a personal touch, the ‘Lupino’s’ logo on restaurant signage has been designed in a style inspired by Michelle’s own signature.

Complete with a soothing colour palette of Ambassador’s signature brand colours of ‘aloe’ (green) with hints of ‘allium’ (purple), the relaxed atmosphere of Lupino’s will feature a convivial dining concept where families and/or friends can enjoy food and drink together. With flexible seating for up to 70 guests, and sharing platters inspired by the local tastes and cultures Ambition and her guests will experience across her various ports of call, the exceptional service, authentic flavours and amazing surroundings set the tone for the intimate feel of Lupino’s.

Christian Verhounig, CEO, of Ambassador Cruise Line, said: “Michelle was with us at the very start of our journey as we sought to build the welcoming Ambassador team ashore and onboard that today form the backbone of our business. She was not only an essential member of the team but also a long-term friend of myself and many of her colleagues. As such, when Michelle left us, the overriding feeling was one of utter shock, disbelief and sadness on both a professional and personal level.

“In Lupino’s, we have created a warm and welcoming dining experience, which our guests will enjoy for many years to come. Celebrating all the qualities she showed, Lupino’s will serve as a constant reminder to us all of the positive and inspiring impact Michelle, and indeed all of us, can have on those around us.”

Prior to entering service, Ambition will enter dry dock in Germany for six weeks from the beginning of April, where she will undergo environmental upgrade works, furnishing upgrades and more*. In addition to Lupino’s, dining options onboard Ambition will include two main restaurants, speciality dining options in the Saffron restaurant, a more casual bistro style café, four bars, lounges and a wine bar. Entertainment offerings include the main theatre, a card room, library and craft studio. Additional guest facilities will include the wellness centre, gym, two swimming pools and a range of retail shops.

New Ultra-Luxury Discovery Yacht, Scenic Eclipse II,

Names Acclaimed NASA Scientist Dr. Kathy Sullivan, as Godmother

She’s travelled into space three times as one of NASA’s first female astronauts, is the first American woman to complete a spacewalk, and is the first woman to explore Challenger Deep, the deepest part of Earth’s oceans, earning her the title of the “World’s Most Vertical Person”. Now acclaimed NASA scientist Dr Kathy Sullivan has another first to celebrate, being named Godmother to Scenic’s new ultra-luxury Discovery Yacht, Scenic Eclipse II.

Recognised as a true pioneer in her field, the American geologist and oceanographer, is the perfect individual to take on the illustrious role of Godmother. She will officially christen Scenic Eclipse II –– at a ceremony in Malaga, Spain on 3 June 2023.

“We are immensely proud to have Dr. Kathy Sullivan as Godmother to Scenic Eclipse II,” said Anna Wolfsteiner Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, Scenic Group. “She truly is the living embodiment of what our yachts stands for – innovation, pushing the boundaries, making discoveries and revelling in a sense of adventure. Throughout her career, Dr. Sullivan has grasped life’s opportunities and committed to advancing our knowledge of the world around us. We believe the guests who travel aboard our Ultra-Luxury Discovery Yachts share that same passion and curiosity to explore and learn.”

“It’s a high honour to be a ship’s Godmother,” said Dr. Sullivan upon accepting the role. “I’m especially delighted to be Godmother to a vessel as well-designed for exploration and discovery as Scenic Eclipse II.”

Scenic Eclipse II joins the Discovery Yacht fleet in mid-April 2023, with the naming ceremony taking place in June 2023 after a series of immersive sailings exploring the charming ports and villages of the Mediterranean, that larger ships cannot access.

Dr Sullivan is recognised as one of the world’s foremost scientists and boasts an incredible career of research and exploration. Highlights include being a crew member on three Space Shuttle missions, which included being the first American woman to walk in space for NASA and helping to launch the Hubble space telescope; NASA Chief Scientist; leading the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA); and being the first woman to dive to the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the Earth's oceans. She also holds three Guinness World Records based on her ground-breaking explorations.

Like its sister ship, Scenic Eclipse (launched in 2019), Scenic Eclipse II sets a benchmark in ultra-luxury ocean cruising. The 550ft, 228-passenger exploration yacht is small enough to access ports and coves otherwise inaccessible to traditional cruise ships and boasts its own helicopters and submarine to give guests unrivalled access to nature during sailings. It is built to the highest polar spec, allowing it to sail ice-laden Arctic and Antarctic waters.

All Scenic Eclipse Discovery Yacht voyages are truly all-inclusive, meaning guests can relax, knowing everything is taken care of. Internal flights, transfers, fine dining experiences, premium branded beverages and once in-a-lifetime immersive excursions are all included in the price.

The 11-day Incredible Iberian Discovery voyage aboard Scenic Eclipse II starts from £5,866 per person based on a 12 April 2023 departure**.

A new unique set of journeys and new destinations will allow guests to explore renowned and off the beaten path locations in the Mediterranean, the Middle East, India, the Indian Ocean and Africa marking the first time the luxury lifestyle brand will sail in these regions.

Featuring 25 journeys and 14 extended journeys between August 2024 and end of April 2025, the itineraries will include 82 unique ports across 26 countries. At each stop, guests will have opportunities to discover the local nature and culture through exclusive activities, whilst exploring exotic ‘bucket list’ destinations and delving into the locations through sustainable and tailored experiences. All journeys are designed for the discerning traveller who wants to stay longer, leave later and travel deeper. The brand provides guests with a slower pace of travel, unconventional arrival and departure times and the opportunity to spend more time in each destination with overnight stays while in port to ensure they feel fully exhilarated and immersed in the local culture and environment.

Michael Ungerer, the Chief Executive Officer, Explora Journeys, commented, “This is a new chapter for the brand, we are extremely proud to unveil EXPLORA II and these new itineraries. Our portfolio of destinations is constantly expanding, and we look forward to welcoming guests on board our ships to enjoy once-in-a-lifetime experiences in incredible countries where they will be able to reconnect with themselves, whist connecting with the people they meet, the surroundings and the local communities.”

EXPLORA II will first traverse the Mediterranean reaching ports in Italy, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Israel and Croatia, where guests will immerse themselves in the ancient history of each country, enjoy their traditional and signature culinary flavours, and soak up the surrounding art, colours and architecture. An incredible array of activities awaits EXPLORA II’s guests who will be able to visit some of the most beautiful cities and islands in the Mediterranean such as the eternal city of Rome, Sicily, Menorca – the gastronomy capital of 2022 – to then reach the Eastern Mediterranean with the islands of Mykonos, Santorini, Kalamata and Corfu, lands of mythical gods, architecture, food and ancient culture.

After exploring the magnificence of Israel, EXPLORA II will pass through the Suez Canal and allow its guests to enjoy the beauties of Egypt, the pharaohs’ land, with its heritage, time-honoured traditions, immense deserts and vibrant oases. The ship will then sail onto the Arabian Peninsula towards Saudi Arabia, cruising the coastline of the Red Sea and visiting the world-heritage sights of Al Ula and Hegra. EXPLORA II then sails to the Arabian Gulf to visit by the innovative, new and vibrant cities such as Doha, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, known for their tall skyscrapers contrasting old palaces and beautiful mosques.

EXPLORA II will then reach the coast of India where guests can explore everything from the steamy evergreen forests of the Western Ghats, a primordial lost world of thundering waterfalls and emerald tea plantations, that climb from the beaches of Goa to the Keralan hinterland beyond Kochi, and on to the insatiable energy of Mumbai. In this land, tradition and modernity unite in a wide range of colours and the natural and man-made environments coexist in harmony to inspire imagination.

The voyage of discovery will continue to the islands of the Indian Ocean including Seychelles and Maldives to then reach the natural sanctuaries of Africa with stops in Mozambique, Tanzania, Madagascar, Kenya, Mauritius and South Africa. Relaxing white sand beaches and crystal waters will give way to the Serengeti savannah where guests will be able to experience eco-tented safaris with elephants and leopards. While sailing the southern equatorial current guests can soak up the sounds of nature, experience wow-factor wildlife, enjoy local crafts markets or a tribal immersion that will satisfy even the most demanding travellers’ expectations.

During each stop, guests are invited to ‘linger longer’ and delve into some of the oldest cultures. A combination of old and modern cities, wild flora and fauna, music, festivals, crystal-clear water, desert experiences and UNESCO sites, all accompanied by incredible cuisines featuring old classics, spices, herbs, teas and recipes passed down through generations.

As with EXPLORA I, EXPLORA II’s guests will reside in carefully curated ‘Homes at Sea’ designed to stimulate the senses and enhance the connection with the ocean. Featuring elegant Swiss precision, modern European craftsmanship and vibrant design, the suites are spacious, serene and luxurious homes-away-from-home for the discerning travellers. The culinary offering on board of EXPLORA II will comprise twelve bars and lounges as well as six restaurants for an exclusive choice of food and drinks. Curated by Chef Franck Garanger, Head of Culinary at Explora Journeys, guests will be spoilt for choice with incredible and original menus featuring local and fresh ingredients taking inspiration from the destinations visited. The outlets will offer varied and healthy options to allow every guest to embark on a gastronomic journey whilst on the ship.

Committed to its pledge to the environment, Explora Journeys will continue to utilise the latest in environmental-supporting technologies. Comparably to the first ship of the fleet, EXPLORA II features the latest selective catalytic reduction technology, enables a 90% reduction in nitrogen emissions, is RINA DOLPHIN certified and has been built with ship to shore power capabilities to avoid CO2 emissions while at berth.

Explora Journeys is constantly innovating and adapting to alternative energy solutions as they become available. Aiming to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, the brand recently announced that EXPLORA III and EXPLORA IV will feature LNG engines, whilst EXPLORA V and EXPLORA VI will feature not only an LNG engine, but will be hydrogen powered with industry-first features. The ships will have new generation technologies on board and tackle the methane slip issue effectively, including a containment system for liquid hydrogen that will enable them to use promising low-carbon fuel. The Hydrogen fuel will power a six-megawatt fuel cell to produce emissions-free power for the hotel operation and allow the vessels for zero emissions operations while in port. These innovations will bring Explora Journeys’ investment in its fleet of six ships to €3.5 billion.

Bookings for EXPLORA II sailings from August 2024 to end of April 2025 are now open. Please visit www.explorajourneys.com, call your preferred travel advisor or an Explora Experience Center Ambassador.

Saga’s ‘Spirit of the Rhine’ marks first anniversary

September 21, 2022: Today marks the first anniversary of Saga’s river cruise ship ‘Spirit of the Rhine’ when she embarked on her first cruise, a 13-day sailing, which departed from Trier and took in 11 destinations.

Since then she has made a further 27 river sailings on the Rhine all under the watchful eye of her Master, Captain Marinus Pols. Guests have been treated to some 350 excursions, with top favourites being the Keukenhof gardens, Lake Titisee and the Strasbourg canals. Spirit of the Rhine’s longest trip was over 2,000 km as she travelled the Rhine to Strasbourg, the Moselle to Trier and the Main to Aschaffenburg over the course of 14 days.

The pandemic prevented her naming ceremony from taking place when she launched, but this was remedied on March 19, 2022 when she was officially named alongside her new sister ship, Spirit of the Danube by their Godmother, Dame Jenni Murray.

Both ships are owned by the shipping company Rijfers Nautical Management and built by VAHALI Shipyards. They can host up to 182 guests who are served by up to 50 crew. The vessels have been designed to the highest specification and have four decks and 91 guest cabins. They are 135 metres in length and 11.4 metres wide, with two restaurants, a beautiful sundeck with hot-tub and BBQ, an outdoor terrace, library, gym and stunning panoramic lounges with floor to ceiling windows to maximise the view.

All cabins offer fantastic views. Those on the upper and middle decks are 17m square and feature French balconies, while those on the lower deck are 14m square with smaller windows. They are beautifully designed to be reminiscent of Saga’s ocean ships and to reflect the rivers on which they cruise.

Cruises on both Spirit of the Rhine and Spirit of the Danube will become all-inclusive from the 2023 season, so all meals and drinks will now be covered including in the intimate, speciality restaurants.

Other benefits for 2023 onward include the option to book back-to-back cruises, which will be clearly marketed as such and guests selecting them will receive a further ten per cent off their booking. This is in addition to the introduction of a simpler pricing model that means early bookers are rewarded with discounts of up to 25 per cent off the full price. If, for any reason, the price should be reduced after a guest books, Saga will automatically give them the difference back as part of its price promise.

Each cruise will also guarantee a proportion of dedicated cabins for solo travellers, although travellers should book early to secure them as they are always very popular.  Other benefits include a complimentary door-to-door chauffeur service, travel insurance with up to £5m covid-cover, gratuities, at least three sight-seeing excursions on all seven-night cruises and up to eight included on longer cruises.

Nigel Blanks, CEO of Saga Cruises, said: “This year we’ve already marked the first and third anniversaries of our ocean ship, Spirit of Adventure and Spirit of Discovery, respectively, so we’re delighted to also be celebrating a year since Spirit of the Rhine took to the rivers.

“Our fleet of ships is incredibly young and with that comes great design and comfort. We couple that with excellent and experienced crew, and our guests tell us that’s the winning combination for a fantastic and memorable cruise.”
